Dimitri Moderbacher

Saxophone

Dimitri was born in San Francisco, California and raised in Graz, Austria.

Dimitri started playing saxophone at age 16, studied music at California State University Northridge and completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at William Paterson University in 1996.

Since moving to New York City in 1998, Dimitri has performed at The Blue Note, The Jazz Standard, Smalls, Fat Cat, The 55 Bar, Cornelia Street Cafe, The Knitting Factory, S.O.B.'s, Detour, The Cutting Room, Joyce Soho, Symphony Space, Gillespie Auditorium at the Bahai Center, The Atlanta Jazz Festival, The Late Show with David Letterman, Central Park SummerStage, Googie's Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, Piano's Upstairs Lounge, Rose Live, Nu Blu, Don Hill's, Drom, Bitter End, Paramount Theater (Peekskill, NY).
He has also performed abroad at The St. Lucia Jazz Festival (St. Lucia), The World Creole Music Festival (Dominique), Festival Mizik Jakmel (Haiti), Le Zenith (Paris), Jazz Im Sägewerk (Austria), Cafe Museum (Germany).
He has performed and toured with such notable performers as Aretha Franklin, Tabou Combo, Tony Allen Afrobeat Orchestra, Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Lou Gramm, Brian Stoltz, Norah Jones, Findlay Brown, Bo Bice, Jerry Lewis, The Jamie Begian Big Band, Angela Ortiz, Pyeng Threadgill, Max Pollak & RumbaTap.

Dimitri's debut CD, Close To My Heart, showcases his unique compositional style and melodic sensibility. Recorded live at SoHo's Kavehaz in February 2002, this remarkable CD features seven original compositions. Close To My Heart draws on the talent of German guitarist Sandra Hempel, bassist Phil Palombi and drummer Jason Wildman.
